About Chipping Sodbury Library
Chipping Sodbury Library Partnership
In 2016 South Gloucestershire Council identified Chipping Sodbury library as being at risk of closure due to budget cuts. Very quickly a Friends of Chipping Sodbury Library (FOCSL) group was set up which fought to save the library.
Due to the overwhelming feeling of local people that the library should be saved the Town Council made the decision to support the library by implementing the use of volunteers to run the service. This has been done with the support of the Library Partnership and South Gloucestershire Council which continues to fund the capital costs of the library.
About 40 volunteers have been recruited to run the library with the support of Town Council staff. The library continues to offer most of the usual services with many of them being available online.
The feedback from our library users has been very positive and we are proud that we are able to work with the community and South Gloucestershire Council to ensure such an important facility remains within our town.
